Sandro Ivo Bartoli

Sandro Ivo Bartoli (piano) is one of the finest pianists to emerge out of Italy in the past two decades. Born in Pisa in 1970, he studied at the Florence State Conservatoire and at the Royal Academy of Music in London. The most influential contribution to his artistic development, however, came between 1991 and 1995 through his collaboration with the late Russian pianist Shura Cherkassky. He has played throughout Europe and the United States with major orchestras and appears at some of the world's major music festivals. He has also recorded for Radio and television programmes throughout Europe. Alongside performances in London, Stockholm and Cologne he recently has performed in Munich with Martha Argerich and Rodion Schedrin, in Madrid, broadcast live on Radio Nacional Espanola. He has completed the world premiere recording of the Concertos of Malipiero with the Radio Orchestra of Saarbrücken under Michele Carulli. His discography comprises piano works of Malipiero, Casella, Grainger, Pabst, Mahler, Saint-Saëns, Chopin, Schubert and more recently works of Mario Castelnuevo-Tedesco. In 2010 he will tour Europe performing both concertos by Frédéric Chopin in celebration of the composer’s 200th birthday. Sandro Ivo Bartoli is the subject for a documentary film for French television by director Miroslav Sebestik, titled «Musicien» and also due for release in 2010.
