Kathryn Stott and Pavel Fischer will play two concerts – piano solos, violin solos and some duets. They will play a wide range of pieces by, among others, Debussy, Satie, Bartók, Brahms, Sibelius, Villa-Lobos, Fitkin (first concert) and Dvorak, Chopin, Shostakovik, Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, Albeniz, Teleman (second concert).

Kathryn Stott, one of Britain’s most versatile and imaginative musicians, studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School and at the Royal College of Music in London. She is a frequent guest at the world’s leading concert halls and appears as a concerto soloist and recitalist in Britain and throughout Europe, the Far East and Australia. Kathryn is greatly in demand as a chamber musician and has long-standing partnerships with Yo-Yo Ma, Truls Mørk and Christian Poltéra. A champion of contemporary music, she has given the first performances of many major works including concertos by Sir Peter Maxwell Davies and Michael Nyman, and, with Noriko Ogawa, Graham Fitkin’s Circuit for two pianos and orchestra. She is an enthusiastic exponent of tango and other Latin dance music, a passion reflected in her collaboration with Yo-Yo Ma and leading South American musicians on the Grammy-winning Sony CD Soul of the Tango and its successor, Obrigado Brazil. Pavel Fischer was born in the Czech Republic into a musical family. Pavel studied the violin at the Prague Conservatory and the Prague Academy of Music. In 1987 he won the second prize in the Janáček Competition in Brno and formed a piano duo with pianist Ivo Jančík. They won first prize in the International Chamber Music Competition in Trapani. He has appeared as a soloist with orchestras in Germany and Czechoslovakia, performing concertos by Bach, Mozart, Wieniawski, Bruch, Mendelssohn and Glazounoff. Recently, Pavel Fischer has concentrated more on teaching at the Royal Academy in London, Quartet Academy in Amsterdam and at the University of Mexico City among others.
Members and guests are asked to be at the Centro Cultural at around 1900. Concerts start at 1930.
